Somebody in No. 188 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Jahdae Barron, the No. 15 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Little to argue with here, and the A says so.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, with Tre Harris leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 26 they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Wyatt Milum in No. 41, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ashton Jeanty at pick 54 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Nick Emmanwori here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Harold Fannin Jr. at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They will replay Tate Ratledge at the 86th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Xavier Restrepo in the 134th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 5, Pick 6 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They barely believed it either: Cam Ward still on the board at pick 154. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Jahdae Barron all the way to the 188th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow Jermari Harris was still sitting there in No. 218, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jake Majors in Round 7, Pick 6 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Kyle Kennard at pick No. 256 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
