Somebody in pick No. 255 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Myles Harden, the No. 209 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They will need Eichenberg to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Chris Braswell in No. 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Kingsley Suamataia at par in pick 58, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Javon Bullard in pick No. 88 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on MarShawn Lloyd in the 91st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tommy Eichenberg at Round 4, Pick 26 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Mason McCormick in slot 169 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a safety like Tykee Smith reach the 202nd pick and blink. They did not. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Nothing to complain about; Nathaniel Watson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They paid sticker price for Brevyn Spann-Ford in the 245th pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Myles Harden was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
