Green Bay Packers

A solid, sensible weekend for the Packers: B-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Austin Reed, 55 picks ahead of schedule.

The Bishop pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots. That Barton pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Nate Wiggins · CB · rank 20
In pick 25 they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 25
Graham Barton at the 41st pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
A wild overpay on Jaden Hicks in pick No. 58, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 114
Cedric Gray in Round 3, Pick 25 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 104
A curious use of the 91st overall pick. Edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Cole Bishop did not.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 129
They paid sticker price for Isaac Guerendo in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Tip Reiman · TE · rank 182
They jumped the gun on Tip Reiman, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 199
A reasonable price with a little left over, Steele Chambers in Round 6, Pick 27. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Austin Reed · QB · rank 274
Austin Reed in pick 219 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Tylan Grable · OT · rank 231
Nice patience on Tylan Grable, who had no business lasting to the 245th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Jalen Sundell · OT · rank 246
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Jalen Sundell for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
