Call it larceny. Carson Schwesinger sat on the board until pick No. 186, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.

Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In pick 12 they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 22
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at Round 2, Pick 12 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Tyleik Williams · DT · rank 54
Tyleik Williams at No. 76 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Keon Sabb · S · rank 101
They robbed the room for Keon Sabb here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Willie Lampkin · OG · rank 174
They took Willie Lampkin at par in slot 168, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Connor Colby · OG · rank 175
By-the-book stuff, Connor Colby at pick No. 170 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.36 · Pick 173 · Dont'e Thornton Jr. · WR · rank 178
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 132
A linebacker of that caliber at the 186th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Jared Wilson · C · rank 215
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jared Wilson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Bryson Nesbit · TE · rank 249
A straight-up fair deal on Bryson Nesbit at the 247th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
