The rest of the league will want that one back. Jaydon Blue tumbling to the Patriots in Round 7, Pick 1 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
So much rides on Ashton Jeanty that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get an every-down engine for the run game. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Cameron Williams at pick No. 69 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A clean, defensible pick in the 81st overall pick with a little surplus value in Isaiah Bond. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Zy Alexander in pick 106 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jake Majors at slot 119. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Lathan Ransom at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Jaydon Blue in the 217th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ricky White III in pick No. 238, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
