The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Nicholas Singleton, pick 218, roughly 119 picks past where he belonged.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Hemingway has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Will Campbell at pick 56 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Josh Conerly Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Barrett Carter in the 125th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Smael Mondon Jr. at No. 159 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
The board had cheaper options than Tonka Hemingway at the 208th pick, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nicholas Singleton in slot 218 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jack Kiser in pick No. 237 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
You do not let a linebacker like Karene Reid reach pick 250 and blink. They did not. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
