The Packers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Darius Muasau, the No. 195 name on the board, in pick 217.
With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a two-high chess piece. Need was not the driver here.
Value with a capital V on Graham Barton in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kalen King is a better player than pick No. 57 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Jonathon Brooks, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 25. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Zak Zinter at pick 92 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Beau Brade in the 125th overall pick leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots for later.
Christian Jones in No. 203 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Darius Muasau at slot 217 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Isaiah Neyor at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had Jason Henderson higher than Round 7, Pick 26, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
