The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Matthew Jones went at Round 6, Pick 38, a good 47 picks before the board was ready.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. Wright at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
They did well to land Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 56, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Marist Liufau at the 87th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
