They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They are betting McCarthy proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get their quarterback of the future, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
In pick 23 they get a double-digit-sack hope. A clean fit for the roster.
They did well to land Jordan Morgan in Round 2, Pick 8, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was the payoff at pick No. 78. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A tidy bit of business in the 100th overall pick, where Jaden Hicks graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Trevor Keegan in No. 139 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Erick All at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
