If confidence were a draft strategy, the Raiders would have aced it. Colbie Young at the Round 6 slot is 123 spots clear of where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B.

They have staked the next five years on Fernando Mendoza, which is the only story that really matters here. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.1 · Pick 1 · Fernando Mendoza · QB · rank 4
In No. 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Lee Hunter · DT · rank 49
Lee Hunter at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Kamari Ramsey · S · rank 73
No edge and no loss on Kamari Ramsey in slot 67; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · J.C. Davis · OT · rank 134
J.C. Davis in pick No. 102 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Kaelon Black · RB · rank 210
Kaelon Black at the 117th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Davison Igbinosun · CB · rank 126
The board had Davison Igbinosun higher than Round 4, Pick 34, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.35 · Pick 175 · Kaleb Elarms-Orr · LB · rank 175
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.1 · Pick 182 · Jeff Caldwell · WR · rank 184
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeff Caldwell. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.18 · Pick 199 · Colbie Young · WR · rank 322
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Colbie Young well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.27 · Pick 208 · Isaiah Nwokobia · S · rank 226
They reached a country mile for Isaiah Nwokobia at Round 6, Pick 27, and the board is aghast. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R7.3 · Pick 219 · Noah Whittington · RB · rank 219
By-the-book stuff, Noah Whittington at pick No. 219 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
