The Patriots spent real capital to be 74 picks early on Adam Randall, and the board is going to hold them to it. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
The Juanyeh Thomas pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
They talked themselves into Jacob Rodriguez at slot 47, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at Round 2, Pick 31. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Steal is underselling it; Malachi Fields at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They went early on Oscar Delp in pick No. 119, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaiah World this early at the 125th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Kaleb Proctor in pick 131, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nyjalik Kelly well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Domani Jackson in the 198th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Adam Randall at No. 202 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Diego Pavia in the 247th pick. It fills a real need, too.
