Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Johnny Dixon, the No. 190 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 233rd pick. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Briggs has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Graham Barton in the 28th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Ennis Rakestraw Jr. still on the board at the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Xavier Worthy all the way to pick 87, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on James Williams, who had no business lasting to the 134th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Roger Rosengarten at Round 5, Pick 8. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in No. 174, where Sione Vaki graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Garret Greenfield in pick No. 216; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Johnny Dixon in slot 233, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jowon Briggs at pick No. 244 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
