The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Nehemiah Pritchett, the No. 143 name on the board, in Round 5, Pick 37.
The Jones pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, quarterback and other spots still on the board. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kingsley Suamataia in slot 64. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Max Melton in pick No. 95 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jaden Hicks at No. 102 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A curious use of pick 132. Tight end, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Elijah Jones did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luke McCaffrey in the 159th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Taking Nehemiah Pritchett in Round 5, Pick 37 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Trevin Wallace in the 252nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
