Nobody had Isaiah Davis this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 86 spots to get him at pick No. 219. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They banked enough surplus on Cowing to cover a lot of smaller sins. With quarterback and tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 9 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Calen Bullock at No. 41, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at slot 43 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
No edge and no loss on Amarius Mims in the 73rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tyleik Williams at the 109th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Cole Bishop while clear needs at quarterback and tight end sat open.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick No. 187 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jacob Cowing in No. 217, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for Isaiah Davis at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Zy Alexander in Round 7, Pick 10, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
