Hard to poke a hole in the Patriots' weekend: A-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Patriots would have aced it. Frank Gore Jr. at pick No. 193 is 34 spots clear of where he belonged. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. That Wilson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Amarius Mims and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Bo Nix in slot 34 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nothing to complain about; Xavier Legette went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Cooper Beebe graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Mike Sainristil in the 68th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at No. 103, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Johnny Wilson in No. 137. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Jared Wiley in the 180th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 193, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wild overpay on LaDarius Henderson in Round 7, Pick 11, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
