New England Patriots

Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a B- for the Patriots.

Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Coleman. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Reaching for Suamataia left real value on the table behind him.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 5
In No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 57
A wild overpay on Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 2, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 36
Keon Coleman at the 68th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · DJ James · CB · rank 87
They barely believed it either: DJ James still on the board at slot 105. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Jamari Thrash · WR · rank 129
Jamari Thrash at the Round 4 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Jared Wiley · TE · rank 200
A reach for Jared Wiley in the 188th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
