The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in DeMonte Capehart, taking him 63 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a No. 1 receiver, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Trey Benson in the 56th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Drake Nugent in the 124th overall pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Christian Jones at pick 174 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 212 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good price on Nathaniel Watson in pick 245, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
