The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. DeMonte Capehart went at the 212th pick, a good 63 picks before the board was ready.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid a round early for Payton Wilson in the 56th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 87th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jordan Travis at slot 89 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Jarrian Jones went about where he belonged in pick 124. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value said wait; Christian Jones in Round 5, Pick 38 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for DeMonte Capehart, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Eric Gentry at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
