The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took DeMonte Capehart at the 242nd pick regardless, 33 picks early. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Beebe pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Brenden Rice at the 56th pick, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They let Cooper Beebe come to them and pounced at pick 87. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cedric Gray at the 125th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Isaiah Davis at No. 173 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Nathaniel Watson at slot 213 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached into another round for DeMonte Capehart, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
