The war room fell hard for Will Sheppard, and it showed at slot 253: 84 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
They banked enough surplus on Shough to cover a lot of smaller sins. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Omarion Hampton was the payoff at pick No. 44. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Josh Conerly Jr. in the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They liked Maxwell Hairston enough to skip the value, taking him in the 63rd overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Carson Schwesinger at slot 66 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Kevin Winston Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They talked themselves into Jeffrey Bassa at the 106th pick, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Jack Nelson in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Tyler Shough still on the board at pick No. 174. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Ollie Gordon II at Round 6, Pick 12 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Chimere Dike in No. 211 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Thor Griffith at the 249th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Will Sheppard at pick 253 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
