The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Gabe Hall, taking him 33 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They reached into another round for Cooper Beebe, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Mike Sainristil at pick 87 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Audric Estime slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the running back. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A quiet steal in No. 124: Leonard Taylor III for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Gabe Hall in the 174th overall pick, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
De'Corian Clark at the Round 6 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Jase McClellan at the 245th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
