Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Chris Paul Jr., the No. 117 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 238.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Emeka Egbuka at pick 44 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Tyler Warren at No. 69 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Jihaad Campbell still on the board at the Round 3 slot. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board had Sebastian Castro higher than Round 4, Pick 3, and the safety fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jake Majors at the 117th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in slot 143, where Domani Jackson graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 217th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Clay Webb at par in slot 220, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Chris Paul Jr. at No. 238 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
