The Cowboys lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The Cornelius reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a problem off the edge. Need was not the driver here.
In pick No. 13 they get a three-down runner, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
In slot 14 they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Jalon Walker in the 39th pick, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Nick Emmanwori at No. 40 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Alfred Collins at the 54th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Jalen Royals at par in the 67th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Danny Stutsman in the 84th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ajani Cornelius in slot 90 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They jumped the gun on Nicholas Singleton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cam Skattebo at pick No. 102 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
