The phones were a trap the Eagles kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots still on the board.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Davis pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
On value alone, Pritchett makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.4
· Pick 4
· Jayden Daniels
· QB
· rank 8
In the 4th pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
R1.28
· Pick 28
· Tyler Nubin
· S
· rank 30
In pick No. 28 they get a centerfielder for the defense at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.15
· Pick 47
· Chris Braswell
· LB-EDGE
· rank 56
They paid up for Chris Braswell at Round 2, Pick 15 when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R2.22
· Pick 54
· Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
· LB
· rank 59
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.23
· Pick 86
· Gabriel Murphy
· DL-EDGE
· rank 85
By-the-book stuff, Gabriel Murphy at slot 86 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.34
· Pick 97
· Javon Solomon
· OLB-EDGE
· rank 108
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots sat open.
R4.18
· Pick 118
· Malik Washington
· WR
· rank 119
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malik Washington. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.1
· Pick 137
· Cedric Gray
· LB
· rank 135
They took Cedric Gray at par in pick 137, which is nothing to complain about. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R5.18
· Pick 154
· Austin Booker
· DE-EDGE
· rank 159
No drama and no debate, Austin Booker went about where he belonged in the 154th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.23
· Pick 159
· Nehemiah Pritchett
· CB
· rank 142
Nehemiah Pritchett slid further than he should have, and slot 159 is lovely value for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.36
· Pick 172
· Isaiah Davis
· RB
· rank 184
Isaiah Davis at No. 172 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
