You could see the war room lean forward. Adonai Mitchell at the 53rd overall pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, T'Vondre Sweat in the 50th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Adonai Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 21 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Blake Fisher at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tommy Eichenberg at pick 161 is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nothing to complain about; Jaheim Bell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Malik Mustapha at pick No. 172 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Johnny Dixon at No. 210 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
