Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Chiefs spent Round 1, Pick 32 on Tre Harris, a name most had 25 spots down the list. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. However the rest shakes out, Cornelius at that price is a win they earned. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a matchup problem out wide, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reach for T.J. Sanders in the 69th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ajani Cornelius at the 71st pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nicholas Singleton in pick 96 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 103 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Dylan Fairchild at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Davison Igbinosun at pick No. 160 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Bryce Foster in the Round 7 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Akheem Mesidor at pick 224, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
