You could see the war room lean forward. Khyree Jackson at the 132nd pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Chiefs indulged a want in Jackson while a need in tight end, offensive lineman and other spots stayed open. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The skill positions did well by the weekend.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 27
A tidy little value on Brian Thomas Jr. in the 32nd pick, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · DJ James · CB · rank 53
Nice patience on DJ James, who had no business lasting to pick No. 64. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 96
No edge and no loss on Brenden Rice in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Khyree Jackson while clear needs at tight end, offensive lineman and other spots sat open.
R5.23 · Pick 159 · Anthony Gould · WR · rank 142
A quiet steal in slot 159: Anthony Gould for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Kalen King · CB · rank 139
You do not let a cornerback like Kalen King reach the 173rd overall pick and blink. They did not. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
