After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Oladapo to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They will need Paul to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jayden Daniels and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Patrick Paul at Round 2, Pick 2 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They went early on Ja'Lynn Polk in pick No. 43, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ja'Tavion Sanders slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the tight end. It fills a real need, too.
Matt Goncalves in the 103rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Kris Abrams-Draine at the 139th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kitan Oladapo in slot 182 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zakhari Franklin at No. 224 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
