Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Anthony Gould got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at Round 6, Pick 41. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 24, with Jonathon Brooks worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
DJ James at slot 87 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Anthony Gould in pick 216, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Trente Jones at pick No. 233 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Caedan Wallace at No. 244 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
