There is a lot to like until you notice running back is still a hole. The 49ers never got to the one that mattered most. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Reaching for Stephens left real value on the table behind him. The Lee III pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a security blanket over the middle, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in the 58th overall pick with a little surplus value in Emmanuel McNeil-Warren. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board had Will Lee III higher than pick 127, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Isaiah World at No. 133 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on CJ Daniels. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A premium they did not need to pay, Beau Stephens a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
