Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Patriots spent the Round 4 slot on Jaheim Bell, a name most had 35 spots down the list. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Nix value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 5 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bo Nix in the 34th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Roman Wilson at the 68th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in No. 69; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cam Hart in Round 4, Pick 3 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Value said wait; Jaheim Bell in the Round 4 slot says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brandon Coleman well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Jawhar Jordan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Brevyn Spann-Ford in pick No. 224 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Carson Steele at slot 226, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They liked Kurtis Rourke enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 232. It fills a real need, too.
