You build a draft on nights like this. James Williams had no business being available in slot 207, and the Giants did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Barner pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Rome Odunze. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at par in Round 2, Pick 7, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jared Verse in the 70th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ruke Orhorhoro in slot 73 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Christian Mahogany at pick No. 107 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cole Bishop slid further than he should have, and the 143rd pick is lovely value for the safety. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Daijun Edwards all the way to No. 166, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They jumped the gun on AJ Barner, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A safety of that caliber at the 207th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
