The Cowboys lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Neyor pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In No. 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line. The biggest hole, addressed.
DeWayne Carter at pick No. 105 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A clean, defensible pick in the 125th pick with a little surplus value in Dillon Johnson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Cedric Gray in pick 137, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Layden Robinson in slot 173 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Andru Phillips still on the board at the 188th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Kenny Logan Jr. in slot 213, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Isaiah Neyor in the 242nd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
