The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Nick Emmanwori slide 30 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They will need Burch to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a weapon on the perimeter, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in No. 36, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They jumped the gun on Josh Simmons, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Jordan Burch at pick 100, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Noah Fifita in the 132nd overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Nick Emmanwori at pick No. 164 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tidy bit of business in the 174th pick, where Jonah Monheim graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
