The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jordan Morgan, pick No. 68, roughly 31 picks past where he belonged.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Milton III pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 23 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick 27 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Tavion Sanders. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jordan Morgan at slot 68 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land Xavier Legette in pick No. 76, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They robbed the room for Austin Booker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Christian Jones in the Round 5 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They let Luke McCaffrey come to them and pounced at pick 162. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Joe Milton III in the 180th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the 193rd pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A tidy little value on Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 231, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
