Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Commanders, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
They are betting Foster proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Wheatley pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher still on the board. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
On value alone, Ramsey makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 18th pick they get a workhorse for the backfield, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Caleb Banks is a better player than Round 2, Pick 17 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Anthony Hill Jr. all the way to pick No. 65, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Lee Hunter at the 66th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid a round early for Ted Hurst in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kamari Ramsey at pick 104 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Zakee Wheatley while clear needs at edge rusher sat open.
Value with a capital V on Tacario Davis in the 122nd overall pick, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Julian Neal in the Round 4 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Drew Allar, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Nate Boerkircher at pick 155, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Bryce Foster in the 223rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
