The board owed the Chiefs one, and it paid up: Isaac Guerendo, the No. 129 name on the board, sitting there at slot 173 like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get juice off the edge, and a steal at that.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Theo Johnson at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on Johnny Wilson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jarrian Jones in Round 5, Pick 23 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Circle this one: Isaac Guerendo at pick No. 173 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Michael Barrett in the 252nd overall pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
