The Cardinals spent real capital to be 222 picks early on Marcus Harris, and the board is going to hold them to it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Thomas. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 27th overall pick they get a disruptive interior force, and a steal at that.
They took Bo Nix at par in the 35th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ruke Orhorhoro in Round 3, Pick 2. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Junior Colson in slot 71 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Sedrick Van Pran in pick 90, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Javon Foster well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A conviction pick on Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 138 that the board grades a round light. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They talked themselves into Marcus Harris at slot 162, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Xavier Thomas at pick 186 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Andrew Coker in Round 7, Pick 6 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
