Arizona Cardinals

More right than wrong for the Cardinals, and a B to prove it.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cardinals took Kevin Jennings a full 91 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Grant pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.12 · Pick 44 · Kenneth Grant · DT · rank 23
Circle this one: Kenneth Grant at No. 44 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
R2.15 · Pick 47 · Grey Zabel · OT · rank 56
Grey Zabel at pick 47 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.12 · Pick 113 · Rylie Mills · DL · rank 133
This one needs a full-page explanation: Rylie Mills in the 113th pick, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.30 · Pick 131 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 117
The board had Daylen Everette higher than slot 131, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.14 · Pick 151 · Kevin Jennings · QB · rank 242
A wild overpay on Kevin Jennings in the 151st overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
