The Commanders bet big and early on Tommy Eichenberg, 23 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Troy Fautanu at Round 2, Pick 4 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Chop Robinson at slot 40, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cooper Beebe a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Bucky Irving slipping to the 100th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tommy Eichenberg. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Dallin Holker in slot 141 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had cheaper options than JD Bertrand at the 181st overall pick, and it noticed. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A slide stopped in pick 223, with Sheridan Jones worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
