This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Keon Coleman, the No. 36 name on the board, stolen at No. 90. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Travis pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 27 they get a security blanket over the middle, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
They let Amarius Mims come to them and pounced at No. 34. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Patrick Paul at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Keon Coleman in the 90th overall pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Khyree Jackson at slot 103 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A big swing on Jordan Travis at the 137th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Chau Smith-Wade at pick 180 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Sione Vaki is a better player than the 186th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach on Daijun Edwards in the 193rd overall pick; the board had better options right there. It fills a real need, too.
