This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Tyler Nubin, the No. 29 name on the board, stolen at slot 50. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Stogner has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Tyler Nubin in the 50th overall pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
T.J. Tampa slipping to pick 54 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jalen McMillan at the 97th pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Cole Bishop graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Jaylen Wright in No. 163, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Value with a capital V on Austin Booker in pick No. 172, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; Austin Stogner in Round 6, Pick 3 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nice patience on J.J. Weaver, who had no business lasting to the 243rd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
