The rest of the league had time to spare on Drew Allar; the Steelers did not wait, grabbing him 37 spots ahead at the 121st pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Landing Trost that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
Keylan Rutledge at Round 2, Pick 21 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Josiah Trotter worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Treydan Stukes come to them and pounced at pick 85. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Darrell Jackson Jr. in No. 86 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Ja'Kobi Lane in the 99th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They talked themselves into Drew Allar at the 121st pick, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Justin Joly in pick No. 135. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Hezekiah Masses at pick 161 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Josh Cameron slipping to Round 6, Pick 23 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 216 is the definition of value, full stop. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Jalen Stroman at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kaden Wetjen at the 230th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value with a capital V on Jeremiah Wright in No. 237, a genuine coup. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
