Pittsburgh Steelers

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Steelers: B-.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Drew Allar; the Steelers did not wait, grabbing him 37 spots ahead at the 121st pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Landing Trost that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The trade work was a quiet net positive. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · KC Concepcion · WR · rank 25
In slot 22 they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Keylan Rutledge · OG · rank 74
Keylan Rutledge at Round 2, Pick 21 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Josiah Trotter · LB · rank 60
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Josiah Trotter worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.21 · Pick 85 · Treydan Stukes · CB · rank 72
They let Treydan Stukes come to them and pounced at pick 85. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.22 · Pick 86 · Darrell Jackson Jr. · DT · rank 106
A real head-scratcher, Darrell Jackson Jr. in No. 86 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.35 · Pick 99 · Ja'Kobi Lane · WR · rank 103
No edge and no loss on Ja'Kobi Lane in the 99th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Drew Allar · QB · rank 158
They talked themselves into Drew Allar at the 121st pick, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Justin Joly · TE · rank 122
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Justin Joly in pick No. 135. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.21 · Pick 161 · Hezekiah Masses · CB · rank 139
They will replay Hezekiah Masses at pick 161 for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.23 · Pick 204 · Josh Cameron · WR · rank 191
Josh Cameron slipping to Round 6, Pick 23 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.35 · Pick 216 · Keagen Trost · OT · rank 184
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 216 is the definition of value, full stop. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.8 · Pick 224 · Jalen Stroman · S · rank 211
Jalen Stroman at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.14 · Pick 230 · Kaden Wetjen · WR · rank 234
Kaden Wetjen at the 230th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.21 · Pick 237 · Jeremiah Wright · OG · rank 228
Value with a capital V on Jeremiah Wright in No. 237, a genuine coup. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
