They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Drew Allar, 73 picks early at No. 85.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Burks pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 29 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Emmanuel Pregnon in No. 53, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Treydan Stukes went about where he belonged in the 74th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Deontae Lawson at pick 76 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Drew Allar at Round 3, Pick 21, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darrell Jackson Jr.. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Deion Burks was still sitting there in pick No. 121, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bishop Fitzgerald at the 135th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Hezekiah Masses in No. 161 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kendrick Law in Round 6, Pick 35 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in slot 224, with Dallen Bentley worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Noah Whittington in the Round 7 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
TJ Hall at pick 237 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
