They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. Wiley has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Cooper DeJean in the 34th overall pick, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Devontez Walker at No. 70 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Mohamed Kamara in Round 5, Pick 1 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jha'Quan Jackson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jared Wiley at the 193rd pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Nathan Thomas at slot 231, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
