The tape said wait; the Steelers did not. Harold Perkins Jr. went at slot 85, a good 49 picks before the board was ready. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
However the rest shakes out, Igbinosun at that price is a win they earned. They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while edge rusher and running back went begging.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 21 they get a go-to option on the outside, reach and all.
Emmanuel Pregnon at the 53rd pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A premium they did not need to pay, Skyler Bell a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Harold Perkins Jr. in pick No. 85, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A surprising call. With edge rusher and running back still to address, they spent slot 99 on Isaiah World, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Circle this one: Davison Igbinosun at No. 121 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Bishop Fitzgerald higher than the Round 4 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marlin Klein. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taylen Green at the 216th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Eric McAlister in pick No. 224, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Bryson Eason went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
TJ Hall at pick 237 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
