The real work happened on the phones. The Giants fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Eichenberg has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
However the rest shakes out, McGlothern at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, with Ricky Pearsall leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid a round early for Ricky Pearsall in the 47th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kris Abrams-Draine in No. 81 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on Jaden Hicks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Maason Smith at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Braelon Allen at pick No. 108 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Johnny Wilson at par in Round 4, Pick 22, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tommy Eichenberg in pick No. 125 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid up for Mason McCormick at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Roger Rosengarten at slot 141 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dwight McGlothern at pick 183 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 6, Pick 10, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They went early on Eric Watts in the 220th pick, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in the 257th overall pick, where Jalen Sundell graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
