Washington Commanders

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Commanders and Robinson: B+.

Future B-

The real work happened on the phones. The Commanders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on Robinson to cover a lot of smaller sins. Trey McBride gives the group a proven body among the projects.

They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.4 · Pick 4 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 3
In the 4th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 32
Graham Barton at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 34
Fair-plus on Chris Braswell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · D.J. James · CB · rank 64
Nothing to complain about; D.J. James went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Gabriel Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 85
Gabriel Murphy at slot 100 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in No. 102; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 128
They let Cole Bishop come to them and pounced at slot 141. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 163
Layden Robinson in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Blake Watson · RB · rank 218
Blake Watson at pick No. 223 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
