Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals bled value on every deal, hence the D.

Somebody took the Bengals to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.

They will answer for taking TE-EDGE early while cornerback went begging. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

If Neal pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.30 · Pick 30 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 31
They paid sticker price for Johnny Wilson in pick No. 30, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 28
Value with a capital V on Taliese Fuaga in Round 2, Pick 4, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 60
Mekhi Wingo in the 56th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 87
No drama and no debate, Jackson Powers-Johnson went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Cade Stover · TE-EDGE · rank 128
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback to take Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE that was not the priority.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Devin Neal · RB · rank 174
They liked Devin Neal enough to skip the value, taking him in the 161st pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Riley Leonard · QB · rank 166
By-the-book stuff, Riley Leonard at No. 167 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 180
They took Oronde Gadsden II at par in slot 173, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Omar Speights · LB · rank 205
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Omar Speights. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Zion Nelson · OT · rank 238
Good price on Zion Nelson in slot 245, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.34 · Pick 254 · Tyreek Chappell · DB · rank 263
Tyreek Chappell at the 254th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
