Some picks age like wine; Tanner Mordecai at the 232nd overall pick will need to, sitting 153 spots clear of his grade.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Thrash falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value.
The board had Emeka Egbuka higher than Round 2, Pick 7, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at slot 43, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Sedrick Van Pran at pick 75 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Christian Mahogany at the 82nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Cam Hart went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Nehemiah Pritchett in the 135th overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jamari Thrash in slot 189. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Aki Ogunbiyi at par in the 217th pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Frank Gore Jr.. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tanner Mordecai at No. 232 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
